FinishDeep-Impression Letterpress
FormatCustom Square, Deckle Edge
Run Size300 Sets
A letterpress invitation is kept, framed and passed round a table. So the specification is about the impression itself. How deep it goes, and what the board does to the ink.
What this specification does on press
- 600 GSM cotton rag is at the top of the invitation weight range. At this weight the sheet is closer to card than paper, and the cotton gives it the compressibility a deep impression needs.
- Deep-impression letterpress forces the type into the sheet, leaving a deboss you can feel with a fingertip and a shadow on the reverse. It is a deliberate, visible mark of handwork, not a surface print.
- A deckle edge is an untrimmed, feathered edge left on the sheet rather than a guillotine-cut one. It is the sign of a sheet made on a mould, not cut from a roll.
- 300 sets is typical for weddings. Each set is a main card, a detail card and a reply card, so one set is three printed pieces sharing a single design.
Decisions to make before you order
- Deep impressions are for one side. Letterpress on both faces of a 600 GSM sheet shows the deboss through the card, and that can read as damage rather than craft.
- Deckle edges are not perfectly uniform. If the design needs a hard geometric edge, the deckle will fight it. If it needs softness, the deckle is the point of the sheet.
- Heavy ink coverage on cotton rag dries into the fibre and flattens. Ask for a proof on the actual stock before approving colour.
